이것은 아이들의 이야기이다. 바다의 아이들. 물고기에서 진화한 인간의 아이들의 이야기. 혹은 동화같은, 하지만 실제하는 이 세계의 이야기.

작품은 물고기 여인이라 불리는 한 사람으로부터 출발한다. 관객은 물고기 여인으로부터 여인에 관한 어떠한 이야기를 듣게 된다. 남자아이가 여자아이로 변하기도 하고 여자아이가 남자아이로 변하기도 하는 기이하고도 기묘한 바다의 아이들에 관한 이야기는 동화도 아니며 전설도 아닌 해양 생물들의 생식 방법을 바탕으로 하고 있는 실제 이야기이다.

원시 해양에서 생명이 태어나 현재의 모습으로 진화를 거듭했다. 사람의 몸속에도 해양 생물로부터 진화해온 흔적이 아직까지 남아 있다. 기이하게만 보이는 해양 생물의 성적 다양성 또한 유심히 들여다보면 인간의 사회 속에도 엄연히 존재한다.

넓고 깊은 절영로 바닷가를 바라보며, 태초의 생명이 탄생하여 인간으로 진화하기까지의 과정을 상상해 본다. 우리는 결국 모두 바다에서 태어나지 않았는가. 새우도, 굴도, 혹돔도. 어린이도 노인도 모두다. 그리고 사회 안에 감추어진 모든 그들 또한 바다로부터 태어난 바다의 아이들이다.

This video begins with one person who is called the fish lady. The audience hears a certain story about a woman from the fish lady. An eerie and mysterious story about the sea children, where boys turn into girls and a girl turns into boys. The story is not a fairytale nor a myth, but a true story based on the way sea organisms live.

Life was born in the ancient oceans and evolved to its current form today. Even in the human body there is still evidence left that shows humans evolved from these sea organisms. If one looks into the diverse sexualities of the strange sea organisms, one will realize the same diversity exists within our human society as well.

As I look out to the wide and deep sea of Jeoryeong-ro beach, I imagine how evolution progressed since the very first birth of life to its human form today. Perhaps, in the end, we all are born from the sea. The shrimps, the oysters, the cold porgy, the child and elders all. And even those who are still hidden by society, they also are all children of the sea.
